Hackney Town Hall Atrium wedding
Kat and Vince’s wedding at Hackney Town Hall was one of those days that reminds me why I love being a London wedding photographer. Relaxed, emotional, a bit chaotic in the best way, and all happening in one iconic London venue from start to finish. One of the best things about town hall weddings in London is their energy, but often they involve a fair bit of travelling between locations. With Kat and Vince’s day, from the ceremony onwards, everything took place at Hackney Town Hall, which meant more time for celebrating and less time worrying about logistics, always a win.
The day started with Kat getting ready at a nearby Airbnb, surrounded by her bridesmaids and family. These quiet morning hours are some of my favourite moments to photograph as it’s the most candid part of the wedding day. At the same time, George was with Vince and the boys at Kat and Vince’s flat, where the atmosphere was equally relaxed as the guys helped each other with their ties. Once everyone was ready, the boys headed to a local pub before making their way to Hackney Town Hall.
A Hackney Town Hall ceremony
Hackney Town Hall is one of the most popular choices for couples looking for a London town hall wedding, such an iconic venue with the atrium bringing something different to the standard town hall ceremony room. Kat and Vince’s ceremony was full of warmth, laughter and fun, exactly the kind of thing I aim to capture as a London wedding photographer.
Straight after the ceremony, I quickly stole Kat and Vince away upstairs for a few relaxed portraits amongst the beautiful art deco interior of Hackney Town Hall. It’s such a gem for portraits, especially if you want something really nearby, but still refined and stylish. Then it was back downstairs for an epic confetti line, followed by drinks in the atrium.
Couple portraits near London Fields
Once Kat and Vince had time to chat with everyone, we slipped out briefly for their couple portraits just around the corner from Hackney Town Hall. Being so close to London Fields is another huge bonus of this venue. We found some great backdrops near the railway arches, a mix of urban textures and natural light that worked beautifully. These portraits were fun, relaxed, and very “them”, which is always my goal when photographing couples in London.
Wedding breakfast, speeches and dancing
Back inside, the wedding breakfast kicked off with the MCs getting everyone involved in a game before Kat and Vince made their entrance. Speeches followed, full of stories, laughter, and a few emotional moments, all of which flowed naturally without being overly staged. As the evening rolled on, cocktails were poured, the cake was cut, and the dancefloor filled up, the perfect ending to a genuinely joyful day. From candid moments to full on dance floor chaos, it was everything I love about photographing London town hall weddings.
Kat and Vince’s wedding was a brilliant example of how a town hall wedding in London can feel relaxed, personal, and full of character. Hackney Town Hall offers so many opportunities for great photography, especially if you’re after something natural and fun rather than overly posed. If you’re planning a wedding at Hackney Town Hall, or looking for a London wedding photographer who focuses on candid, relaxed photos full of feeling and fun, I’d love to hear from you.
